Good questions. Clear answers.

4gatherers is about meeting people around you in real life. Here's what to expect.

What is 4gatherers?

4gatherers is an upcoming social discovery app for meeting people nearby. See who has chosen to be discoverable, say hello with a ping, and use a direction and distance indicator to find each other when you both opt in.

Who can use 4gatherers?

4gatherers is for adults 18 and older. Everyone must enter a date of birth during onboarding. The birthdate is stored privately, not displayed on profiles. Age eligibility is based on self-reported information; this is not independent identity verification.

How do pings work?

Tap someone in your nearby list to send a ping. If they ping back while you're both eligible and nearby, a temporary pairing opens with a live compass-style direction and distance. Incoming pings appear at the top of your nearby list. Unanswered pings expire after five minutes.

Who can see my location?

When you enable discovery, other eligible nearby 4gatherers users—including people you haven't met—can see your current device-reported location, even before a mutual ping. Discovery starts off, and you can pause it at any time. If you want to be hidden, leave discovery off.

How does 4gatherers protect my privacy?

Discovery is opt-in. The server checks mapped residential areas and suppresses discoverability when you're inside one. Presence records expire automatically, and you can block users, pause discovery, or request account deletion. Maps and GPS aren't perfect, and unmapped residential areas may not be excluded, so use Pause when you need to be hidden. Read our privacy details.

Can I block or report someone?

Yes. Press and hold a nearby person's profile to block or report them. Blocking prevents either account from discovering the other or starting a new pairing. You can review and remove your own blocks in Account settings. Reports are submitted for review.

Do I need to check in to a venue?

No. 4gatherers is built around the people near you, not establishments or business networking. If you and another person are both discoverable and nearby, you can exchange a hello. No venue check-in or contact list is required.

Is 4gatherers a dating app?

4gatherers is for real-world social connection, not a swipe-based dating service. Meeting a new friend, finding someone to talk with at an event, or connecting with people around you are all part of the idea. There isn't a dating feed or a built-in chat inbox.

Does 4gatherers work everywhere?

The goal is broad coverage, but nearby discovery depends on location permissions, connectivity, the availability of other users, and the geographic dataset. Residential exclusions can be incomplete. 4gatherers is still in development, so widespread availability is not guaranteed.

When can I try 4gatherers on iPhone or Android?

The app is still in development for iPhone and Android. Public app-store availability and pricing have not been announced. To ask about early access, email the team.

Does 4gatherers count how many people I have met?

Yes. Your private Account page shows confirmed meetups, unique people met and estimated hours in discovery for the month. A mutual ping does not count by itself: both people must independently confirm an in-person meeting.

Will 4gatherers email me a monthly recap?

Only if you opt in. After you complete onboarding, we send one welcome email. Monthly reports are optional and off by default; you can change your preference from the Account screen. The recap includes confirmed meetups and estimated discovery hours, never raw GPS coordinates.
