Meeting someone new? Make it a public hello.
4gatherers makes real-world meetings easier, but people still have to make their own safety decisions.
Choose a public place
For a first meeting, prefer a busy cafe, public event, park entrance, or another well-lit location with people around. Avoid sharing home addresses or inviting someone to a private residence.
Decide when your location is visible
Discovery starts off. When enabled, other eligible people nearby may see your approximate current device-reported location before a reciprocal ping. The app is not anonymous. Turn discovery off when you no longer want to be seen. Device GPS can be inaccurate.
Respect a non-response
Sending a ping does not obligate anyone to reply or meet. Stop trying when someone doesn't reciprocate. Pairings are temporary, and either person can end one.
Use block and report controls
Block accounts you do not want to discover or meet. Use the report action for harassment, unsafe conduct, impersonation or other concerning behavior. Blocking reduces contact through the app but cannot control what happens offline.
Know what the residential filter can—and cannot—do
The server removes presence inside residential land-use polygons mapped by OpenStreetMap. The filter is deliberately not a guarantee: neighborhoods may be missing from the data, location observations can drift, and map boundaries can be incomplete. Never rely on the filter as a substitute for turning discovery off.
Who can join?
Users must self-report a date of birth of at least 18. This is not independent identity verification. Use judgment and the same practical caution you would use with any unfamiliar person.
